10 Things You’ll Get Tired of Hearing as an Animation Student

// Featured

Being an animation student is an interesting life. Learning about techniques, finding out about the great animators of the world, watching animations endlessly, networking with other animators but there’s one time that isn’t great – telling people about your course. Here’s a few things you probably get really tired of hearing when you go back home:

1. “So you wanna work at Disney or Pixar when you’re older?”

shrek.dreamworks.tv_Oh boy. Here we go.

2. “I guess it’s all computers now isn’t it?”

Nope.

3. “So how do you make it?”

How do you make it? An animation? You want me to tell you the entire process of making an animation?! From beginning to end? Sure, get comfy. This might take a while.

4. “Have you finished your film yet?”

It’s October.

5. “I guess you get a lot of free time then”

Yeah, its called the end of the year.

6. “Can you do a drawing/animation of me?”

Because I don’t have enough stuff to do with my time.

7. “How have you not seen (insert animation film)?! You’re meant to be an animation student!”

I apologise that your childhood obsession isn’t taking priority over my 100 assignments.

8. “I’ll have to look out for your name in the credits next time I watch an animated film”

Because all animation students immediately get hired to work on big feature films straight after graduation.

9. “Could you teach me?”

Really? It’s a degree not a 2-day course!

10. “So you just make pictures all day? Sounds like fun!”

Don’t patronise me.

All in all, these statements just prove one thing. DON’T TALK TO NON-ANIMATORS. Just stay in your room. You’ve got enough work to be getting on with anyway! The outside world is full of things called “fun” and “distractions”. And you only need to go there for inspiration.
