2016 BAFTA Nominations Announced

// News

It’s that time of year. The Christmas decorations are away and the cold commutes are back. Only one thing will get us through the dark, horrible nights as we struggle to find comfort and that’s the annual return of awards season! Parades of celeb lovelies and more the glitz and glam than you can shake a stick at will be splashed all over newspapers, TV screens and the net.

The first of the big ceremonies to announce their nominations has taken place today as the The British Academy of Film and Television Arts unveil the contenders for the 2016 BAFTA awards. As ever here on Skwigly we don’t really care about which actor or actress gets what, we’re just interested in those hard working ladies and gents that have been slaving away to produce the very best animation and visual effects of the past year to shine the spotlight on those guys, and shine a light we have as over the past year Skwigly have interviewed all the directors of the animated short and feature categories.

As ever we like to do a little poll to see what you’d like to vote for in the BAFTA awards. Last year you correctly guessed The Bigger Picture and Interstellar would walk away with awards for British Short Animation and Special Visual Effects respectively whilst The Lego Movie won the BAFTA for Animated Feature whilst the Skwigly audience would have preferred The Boxtrolls. Notably last year was the first year that the BAFTA for best animated feature and the Academy Award for animated feature didn’t line up due to the Lego movies omission at the Oscars. This year it’s notable to see that Inside Out has received a nomination for Original Screenplay Who do you think will win this year? Vote in our poll below and lets see if your right when the awards ceremony takes place on the 14th February 2016.

Here are the nominations for the 2016 BAFTA awards.
