A total of 33 short films will be part of the official section of 3D Wire Fest, a selection that is grouped into 26 works in the international competition and 7 in the national one. Productions from 15 different countries from Asia, America and Europe will fight to win one of the recognitions granted by the jury and the audience of this contest that gives direct access to the pre-selection of the European Animation Emile Awards, the highest continental recognition of the sector. The novel talent is combined to the perfection with renowned names of the animation that present their last works, such as the French Vicent Paronnaud, director and scriptwriter of the Oscar-nominated film: Persepolis, which has been selected with The Death, Father & Son; or the American Trevor Jimenez, an artist who has worked for Pixar in some of his latest hits like Coco or Finding Dory, and who arrives to Segovia with Weekends.

In the national section we find 5 Spanish productions and another 2 in co-production with France and Estonia respectively. A careful selection that offers the spectator all kinds of genres, including drama, comedy and even documentary; with a great thematic amalgam and where filmmakers with a close link with this market of animation, video games and new media appear. Diego Porral is one of them, the director nominated for the Goya and selected for the third year in a row for this contest, brings on this occasion Monsters Walking, there will also be present Emilio and Jesus Gallego and their Ryoko or Atxur Animazio Talde collective, the latter participated last year and, in this edition, they will compete with Areka. Another long-known director of this Castilian-Leonese appointment is Khris Cembe, who will premiere Soy un tumba (Mum’s the Word), Short Film Project Award Movistar+ in 3D Wire 2016.

The international contest, on the other hand, consists of 26 works. Works from diverse countries as Belgium, Belarus, Canada, Colombia, South Korea, Croatia, United States, Estonia, France, Netherlands, Portugal, United Kingdom, Russia and Switzerland; a diversity that can also be seen in animation techniques ranging from 3D to drawing on paper, through stop motion or pixilation. Along with the important names highlighted above, the selection is home to many other talents to be discovered, such as Lucia Bulgheroni’s Inanimate (United Kingdom), which has already received the third Cinéfondation prize at Cannes, or Vivat Musketeers! by Anton Dyakov (Russia), Young Audience Award in Annecy. Young talent will also play a prominent role, with clear examples like Cabin Pressure (United Kingdom) by Matthew Lee, winner of the best short film student award at the Manchester Festival, or Hybrids, directed by a collective of five French young people from which some of them possess experience in great blockbusters like Avengers: Infinity War or Thor: Ragnarok, something that is evident in its outstanding visual effects.

The competitive section of the Festival, which has its jury already announced with Jean Thoren, director of Animation Magazine; Jose Miguel Ribeiro, director and founder of Praça Filmes; Véronique Encrenaz, director of MIFA Annecy; and Shamik Majumdar, Creative Director of the Department of Animation Content and Real Image of Disney Channels EMEA; will be developed in La Cárcel Espacio deCreación over four sessions, with a final screening of the 3D Wire Winners.

Along with the official section, the contest does not lose sight of another of its main aims: audiovisual literacy and the creation of new viewers among the younger audience. That is why it consolidates the initiative launched last year, 3D Wire Kids.

On this occasion, the special pass of the Norwegian film In the Forest of Huckybucky will take place, a musical adventure where the animals must find a new balance based on respect and harmony among all the inhabitants of the forest. The film by Rasmus A. Sivertsen comes to 3D Wire after having gone through festivals such as Annecy, Giffoni or Shanghai.

The screening will take place on Friday September 28th at 6pm in La Cárcel Espacio de Creación.
