Animated Women UK Launch ‘The Achieve Programme’

// News

Animated Women UK [AWUK] have launched their first ever programme focussed on helping women in animation and VFX achieve their potential.

55% of females working in animation and vfx in the UK feel that they have or will experience career barriers relating to their gender.*

Funded and supported by Creative Skillset, Disney, Turner, Escape Studios and The Mill, the programme addresses these real challenges in order to arm the participants to overcome them and thrive.

This first initiative (hopefully first of many) is being run by acknowledged career development experts, informed by in-depth industry research* and input from renowned vfx and animation experts including Louise Hussey, Executive VFX Producer at Double Negative and Lindsay Watson, Head of Animation at Kindle Animation.

Shiona Llewellyn, Career Development Specialist and one of the Programme Designers said: “The research we conducted in 2015 left us in no doubt that both AWUK and initiatives like ‘The Achieve Programme’ are really needed. We want to help individuals to help themselves and arm every participant with a much greater understanding of how to manage their career successfully as well as build a network of supportive professionals, both male and female. We’re really excited to be offering this programme and look forward to seeing its impact on the participants.”

The programme is seeking 24 women at different stages of their careers to participate in this groundbreaking course in January and February of 2017.

The course has been specially timetabled in the evenings at central London locations to enable participants to slot it in around work and, thanks to the support of sponsors, costs just £220. Assisted places are also available for those based outside of London or for whom the cost is prohibitive.
