Animation UK is thrilled that the Chancellor has announced that the animation industry will be included in tax breaks offered to the gaming sector and ‘high-end’ productions in today’s Budget.

Oli Hyatt, Chairman Animation UK, comments, “This is the news we have been waiting for. Our industry has an enviable heritage that we are all proud of. Overseas animators have long received support from their governments and hopefully now our industry will be able to compete on a level playing field. It would have been a crime for it to disappear from the UK and that was a very real threat. Today’s announcement will hopefully guarantee the long term survival of our industry and ensure it continues to be an industry we are proud of.”

Oli continues, “Animation UK will continue to communicate with the government as regulation is formed, to make sure we can get the best possible conditions for production in this country. It has been a huge effort from the animation community; let’s show the government, this country and the whole world what we can do now that hopefully we will be able to be truly competitive!”

Mark field MP and Patron to Animation UK says, “After three years of hard work and tireless campaigning, especially from Oli Hyatt, I am delighted that the Chancellor has announced today a tax credit for the UK’s animation industry. Finally, we have the level playing field our creative industries so deserve. Combined with our animators’ flair and talent, this fantastic boost will help keep some of our favourite characters animated on these shores. As the Chancellor has declared, the government is determined to keep Wallace and Gromit where they are. I am so glad that he and the Culture Secretary have recognised the enormous value of the UK’s creatives – a value that’s not just economic but cultural. This is brilliant news for our families, the economy and this vibrant industry.”
