The poster was designed by animator and artist Franck Dion, who explains:

I wanted to pay tribute to stop motion in creating this poster as the technique is in the spotlight at this year’s Festival.
It’s the layout of Annecy, situated between lake and mountains, that inspired the idea of the Capricorn, this fabulous half goat, half fish animal that originates in ancient Mesopotamia where it was considered, by those that imagined it, as a sort of guardian spirit.

On the choice of Dion for this year’s visual branding, the festival’s Artistic Director Marcel Jean says:

Since the beginning of his career, Franck Dion has created a real bond with the Annecy Festival. His most recent film, Edmond Was a Donkey, was a winner here in 2012. I feel that the strength and unique quality of his graphic world, combined with his deep knowledge of our event, puts him in the perfect position to transpose the cheerful atmosphere of the Festival into his own style and the enchanting setting of Annecy.
