Both Disney and the National Film and Television School have reason to celebrate this evening as they have both picked up awards from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, but you can call them BAFTA’s. Gravity also took away the award for special visual effects giving the entire effects industry in the UK cause to celebrate as the films breathtaking shots were produced here in the UK.

This is the first nomination for Disney as a feature studio and with the rate of awards Frozen has been picking up it almost seems as good as called that Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck (hear our interview with the pair here) will walk away with the Oscar in March. As previously mentioned the winner of the BAFTA has always gone on to win the Oscar since the ceremonies both had an award honouring features in 2006 and a run of seven parallel wins seems like good odds! (the Oscars started awarding for features in 2001)

The National Film and Television School walk away with another win BAFTA win under their belt, this time for Yousif Al Khalifa’s Sleeping With The Fishes. The prestigious school has previously won 5 BAFTA awards.

In our poll, Skwigly readers predicted I Am Tom Moody would win best short animation, but as with most award ceremonies you can never tell and most of the fun is in the guessing but with Frozen and Gravity winning as predicted here 2 out of 3 isn’t too shabby.
