London based animation production company Beakus, have kicked of 2013 with a bang – with 3 projects going live in the past couple of weeks. Take a look at what they’ve been working on…

Ellen MacArthur Foundation: The Circular Economy
Beakus’ recent signing Mr Binns has been furiously busy. Not only did he create the recent pre-titles for Sky’s ‘An Idiot Abroad’ but he also designed and directed this stylish promo for the Ellen MacArthur Foundation. The animation was created by Mr Binns in 3D, and features sound by Fonic. The narrative explains the Foundation’s concept of a Circluar Economy, in which all goods are re-cycled by their manufacturers, leading to a sustainable cyclical re-use of the world’s raw materials. It’s not only good for the planet, but good for you, me, and big business too!

Totally Rubbish
The latter half of last year saw Beakus beavering away on a new series for CBBC through their friends at Dot To Dot. ‘Totally Rubbish’ is a classic ‘make’ show for kids with a recycling theme. Presenters Nigel Clarke and Michelle Ackerley create artwork from everyone else’s detritus, introducing us to envelope-pushing artists in the process.
They provided over 20-mins of animation for the series, incorporating stand-alone life-stories of famous artists such as Andy Warhol and Damien Hirst created with cut-out animation and photographic backgrounds; a series of comic skits featuring graffiti characters; a series of head-to-head’s with graffiti’d refuse bins realised with stop-motion; plus all the graphics, including the show’s logo and straps!

The Hungry Corpse
‘The Hungry Corpse’ has been a labour of love (mostly) for director Gergely Wootsch, and is a true collaboration between Gergely and writer James Pout. The film took some 5-months to make, with an amazing roster of animation talent frequenting our Waterloo studio, and is a testament to Gergely’s perseverance and artistry. They had the voices recorded by the amazing Bill Nighy and the hilarious Stephen Mangan, whilst music is from Tim Goalen and sound design by Barnaby Templer at Fonic. The film will be screening at festivals in late Spring, and there will be a teaser trailer to whet the appetite soon…
