The Blindraw Challenge Launches – Artists Unite for Syria

// News

Being blind would make the artist work pretty difficult, don’t you agree?

What if the reality we belong to is too often a canvas we are not able to see? It is time for us to remove this blindfold and realize how lucky we are to pursue our passions while hundreds of thousands still struggle to obtain the right to life. We truly believe it’s plenty of generous arty souls out there among the troops of animators, illustrators and comic artists, so we decide to create…

The Blindraw Challenge is a crowdfunding action involving creative people all over the world. Running from the 1st to the 30th of June 2017, the aim of the challenge is to raise awareness and support for the victims of the Syrian crisis, in particular the children.

Taking part in the challenge is very easy. All you need to do is:

  1. Make a drawing, a painting or simply a sketch while completely blindfolded.
  2. Film yourself (or take a few snaps) while doing so, showing the process and the result of your craft.
  3. Nominate a few other artists to do the same, in order to create a chain reaction. But, most important…
  4. Make sure to share your video on socials, and don’t forget to add the link to the official Blindraw Challenge crowdfunding page, where it is be possible to donate for the cause.

You, the artist, are free to decide what to draw while blindfolded: your iconic character, a personal illustration, a stylized self-portrait… that’s your choice.

Head of Animation at Escape Studios, Alex Williams, has kicked off the campaign with the following launch video:

The blindfold acts as a playful way to challenge the artist’s skills while symbolically standing as a metaphor of western countries, sometimes still ‘blind’ to third world problems. The target is to raise $50,000, as a start, with all contributions going to the SKT Welfare, an amazing organization focused on helping the Syrian victims.
