Brand new Jetsons film in the works

// News

“Meet George Jetson…”, we all remember the introduction to the futuristic family of The Jetsons but this time we may have to imagine it on the big screen. Warner Bros. have just announced they’ll be turning the hit 60s cartoon into a fully animated feature.

The Jetsons, which originally aired in 1962-63 in America, was Hanna-Barbera’s futuristic answer to their ever popular show The Flintstones. With rights now owned by Warner Bros. it is their turn to quite literally propel the Jetson family firmly into the 21st Century. The studio has instructed Matt Lieberman to work on the script who’s credits to this point are somewhat lacking. He has however got many a project in the works, with his re-make of cult film Short Circuit and more suitably a brand new Scooby-Doo movie.

This isn’t the first time that The Jetsons have hit the big screen, as there was a feature length movie made in 1990, directed by none other than Joseph Barbera and William Hanna. It’s not the world best known but Lieberman will have a lot to live up to if he’s got to take on the creators.

With no scheduled release date we will have to wait and see whether or not The Jetsons really do belong in the 21st Century.
