CAN You Animate? Red Bull Announce Animation Competition

// News

Are you a budding animator with a story to tell? Fancy creating an animated short that could earn you an internship with one of the best animation studios in the UK? Then you need to head on over to Red Bull Canimation – www.redbull.co.uk/canimation.

The Red Bull Canimation competition aims to provide a platform for both student animators and hobbyists, giving people the chance to take their skills to the next level, with prizes such as internships at some of the world’s best animation studios, industry standard animation software and the chance to be featured on Channel Four, and even in cinemas nationwide.

What do you need to do to be in with a chance of winning? If you think you have what it takes to create the next Toy Story or Wallace and Gromit, simply pick your specialist field e.g. CGI, hand-drawn animation, or stop-motion, and create a short film using the Red Bull can as inspiration – you can even choose a soundtrack from the Red Bull Canimation website: www.redbull.co.uk/canimation.

Each student internship will provide the winner with an invaluable opportunity to learn from some of the most respected experts in their field, working on live briefs, with hands-on experience in the animation industry. The ‘Open’ category offers state-of-the-art prizes such as Stop Motion Pro, Digicel Flipbook Pro and Autodesk® Entertainment Creation Suite Premium 2012 equipment, the latter of which is used by professional animators in the world’s best studios. As well as this, in January 2012, the winning animations have the chance to be featured on Channel 4 as part of the Red Bull Canimation advert take over.

The judges include Merlin Crossingham from Aardman, Dave Anderson from 12foot6 and James Farrington from The Mill as well as everyday people like you and me who can vote on their favorite animations – the deadline is Friday 15th November, so get a move on!

Two weeks after the deadline has passed the public vote will close and the ten most popular films will be shortlisted to go in front of the expert panel of judges. The winners will be presented with their prizes at the Red Bull Canimation Awards Ceremony at the Empire Theatre in Leicester Square on December 15th 2011.

What are you waiting for? Go get creative and come up with something inspiring – it doesn’t matter how simple the idea is to begin with, everyone’s got to start somewhere. You never know, one day you could be the UK’s next animation star!
