Children’s BAFTAs 2011: Winners

Best Animation and Best Writer 2011

Last night, the Children’s BAFTAs once again gave opportunity to celebrate those creating films and television programmes for the younger generation.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 saw off stiff competition from its prequel, Tangled and Kung Fu Panda 2. Peppa Pig scooped two awards on the night, Best Pre-School Animation and Best Performer.

Boulder Media’s The Amazing World Of Gumball deservedly bagged a brace; Best Animation and Best Writer. “It’s a really exciting time for children’s comedy,” said James Lamont, who penned Gumball with co-writer Jon Foster after working on the likes of Armstrong and Miller and School of Comedy.

“Shows like Horrible Histories and Sorry I’ve Got No Head are attacking comedy in the way that adult programmes attack comedy. They have different sensibilities, but they have the same standards. It’s not comedy for kids anymore, it’s kids’ comedy, and that’s important.”

Video games were also given their share of the limelight, with LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean taking home the best video game.
