CIFF Animation Festival 2016 Programme Revealed

Cardiff Animation Nights in association with Cardiff Independent Film Festival are proud to announce the films in competition for the inaugural animation strand at this year’s festival.

The impressive line-up for CIFF’s new animation strand boasts several award-winning films, talks and sessions with high profile figures of the animation industry including Co-Founder and Creative Director of Aardman Animations Peter Lord, Cartoon Network’s ‘The Amazing World of Gumball’ creator Ben Bocquelet and Oscar-nominated Director Joanna Quinn.

Highlights of the competition programme, which features 21 short animated films from 10 different countries, include Rory Waudby-Tolley’s ‘Mr Madilla’, Rhiannon Evans’s ‘Fulfilament’, Claudius Gentinetta’s ‘Islander’s Rest’ and Simon Cartwright’s ‘Manoman’.

The shortlisted films are competing for Cardiff Independent Film Festival’s new Best Animation award, which will be decided by a jury comprising of Cartoon Network Producer Sarah Fell, Aardman Directors Merlin Crossingham and Darren Dubicki, Editor of Skwigly magazine and Co-Director of Manchester Animation Festival Steve Henderson and acclaimed Animation Director Joanna Quinn.

CAN’s Founder Lauren Orme says ‘with its rich history of filmmaking and a thriving animation community, it is so exciting to be bringing an animation festival back to Cardiff, and attracting some of the best known animators and directors to this year’s CIFF.’

Co-Organiser of CAN and Cloth Cat Animation Producer Adam Bailey says ‘we are delighted to present some of the best animated films from around the world and fantastic sessions covering television, indies, features and short films which will appeal to animation fans of all ages. We are proud to be presenting such an esteemed line-up at the first animation strand of CIFF.’

Cardiff Independent Film Festival will run from Friday 22nd to Sunday 24th April 2016 at Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff, and other local venues.
