Dec 4: Have a Smashing Christmas (Larvik’s School of Music and Arts and Sandnes Media AS)

// News

Talk about an after-school project! “Have a Smashing Christmas” was produced by 20 students at Larvik’s School of Music and Arts with direction from animators Ingebjørg Faugstad Mæland and Hans Jørgen Sandnes (Sandnes Media AS).

Hans Jørgen Sandnes gives us a few details about the production:

Interesting moment, fact or point of inspiration from your production:
This production is very special to us. We gathered 20 children at the local school of arts, all of them very interested in animation, and started out with one premise: “We’re going to make a claymation holiday greeting”. So, we were two professional filmmakers who spent every evening for two weeks with the kids. We made sets and props from recycled boxes, bottles, jars etc. and painted, dry-brushed, designed characters, animated and had fun. The children inspired us, and we inspired them. The finished short will debut at the local cinema December 1st, as an animated Christmas card from all of us.

Most memorable Christmas moment:
“From all of us to all of you”, the Disney holiday special, airs on Norwegian TV every Christmas morning. In a way, that got me into animation… the magic of Christmas, the magic of Disney… and the magic of bringing ideas to life. That inspiration turned me into a traditional animator, and that’s the inspiration we’re now trying to pass on to a new generation.

At the top of the Christmas list:
The remastered Blu-Ray version of “Pinchcliffe Grand Prix”, the stop-motion masterpiece by Norwegian director Ivo Caprino.
And peace to the world, of course.
