Disney’s 56th animated feature, Moana, has been officially announced for 2016. After the big hit that was Frozen, the studio is moving to warmer waters. It tells the story of Moana and her task to fulfil an old ancestral quest. Set in the ancient times in the South Pacific region of Oceania, there will be sailing, sea creatures and demi gods, with a good helping of Polynesian folklore. The artwork released with the announcement is simple yet breathtakingly stunning and sets the scene for what could be a fantastic ocean adventure.
Written and directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, the folks behind The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and The Princess and The Frog to name but a few, Moana is set to follow in the footsteps of the not so traditional Disney princess and hopefully with the same dynamic and colourful style that has been presented in other culturally diverse and delightful Disney films.
