The story of Mr Peabody and Sherman goes way back to the late 50’s, early 60’s when they became a mainstay segment in the beloved show Rocky and Bullwinkle. The obscure premise being the relationship between a dog, Mr Peabody, and his pet boy, yes I said pet boy, Sherman. Mr Peabody (Ty Burrell, Modern Family) is a vastly intelligent, athletic and profound individual. From winning a nobel prize to being a two time olympian gold medalist he is a lot more than your average dog.

Having done so many extraordinary things he starts to feel that something is missing from his life. This is when he finds it in himself to adopt a pet human, and why not, if dogs can be pets then why can’t humans, enter Sherman (Max Charles, Amazing Spiderman). Bringing a kid up is no mean feat so Mr Peabody, in his inventive ways, builds a time machine, the WABAC pronounced ‘wayback’, to entertain and educate the young Sherman and so the adventures begins.

The film directed by Rob Minkoff (Lion King, Stuart Little) throws you into Mr Peabody and Sherman’s time travelling adventures meeting with great figures and eras in history from Leonardo DaVinci to the real Mona Lisa. This is all very fun for the pair, travelling and learning until the time comes when Sherman has to step back into reality and start school. Things change and Mr Peabody is no longer 100% in charge. When Sherman meets a girl called Penny (Ariel Winter, Modern Family) things start to go wrong. She joins them in the WABAC and falls in love with ancient Egypt, deciding to stay. Could this change the course of history, who will Sherman stay with and will Mr Peabody learn how to be the understanding father?

A film in which Ty Burrell calls the ‘…greatest stretch of my career’ playing someone that smart, it looks to be a back and forth journey between education, comedy and the old time relationship between a man and his dog. Obviously with a few annoyingly bad puns from Mr Peabody himself, this looks to be a great film to look out for.
