BA/Mart The Art of Computer Animation (Integrated Masters)

AlumniYour lecturer Alex Williams is a cartoonist and animator and Head of Animation Escape Studios. His film credits include Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, The Lion King, and the three latest Harry Potter films. He's worked for studios including Disney, DreamWorks, Fox, Warner Bros, and Sony, so you'll be taught by an animation pro! Our Escapees have gone onto work across a range of fantastic and exciting projects, including franchises such as Star Wars, Guardians of the Galaxy and Harry Potter. Some of the world's most influential and well respected studios are home to our graduates – including Framestore, Double Negative and ILM.

Developed with top animation practitioners, this three year degree will give you industry-style studio training from day one. Using the latest tools and techniques, you’ll get a true taste of what it’s like to work in animation.

As an integrated Masters, this BA/Mart course is the traditional three years in length for an undergraduate, with the ability to continue for a fourth year and secure a Master’s degree.

Taught by our Head of Animation Alex Williams, you’re training is based on real-time studio expectations and standards, to ensure you gain the skills and industry knowledge necessary. With regular tutor and professional feedback, the course structure has been designed so that your work progresses as your skills do.

By your third year, you’ll be working in a team just like a fully developed animation studio, and if you decide to stay on for your fourth year, you’ll also learn about becoming an entrepreneur and develop the skills to start your own studio.

A highly interactive and engaging 12-week programme, this course has been developed to combine the necessary skills and training required of professional Animators in current industry studios.

With a combination of technique driven tutorials and in-depth software training on both Maya and Adobe Photoshop – you will develop a comprehensive toolkit expected by current industry standards.

You’ll also get a hands-on experience with 3D Animation techniques such as:

  • Creating simple geometry
  • Basic texturing
  • Animation with Dynamics
  • Keyframe animation
  • Lighting
  • Rendering

Taught by Head of Animation, Alex Williams, who has worked for the likes of Warner Brothers, Disney and Dreamworks- you’re work will be constantly reviewed and evaluated by industry trained professionals to ensure you achieve the very best work possible.

A comprehensive introduction to the art of animation storyboarding, this part-time course- developed for professionals and newcomers alike, provides a detailed, technical overview for those wanting to master storyboarding.

Developed to work around your current commitments, this course is for those that wish to develop their skills and develop a full and dynamic skillset, ready for the world of industry work.

Led by Head of Animation Alex Williams, the course entails one teaching night a week, and will be set projects that will culminate in a final project for a live “industry brief”. With online mentoring and aftercare, you can continue to fine tune your skills in a virtual classroom, receiving ongoing feedback and support for your final submission.
