Go Behind-The-Scenes of ‘Honda: Paper’ with PES

// News

PES fans will have doubtless seen his elaborately animated and extraordinarily detailed new commercial for Honda which was first broadcast this past weekend. In it the veteran indie filmmaker has applied his outside-the-box creativity to the daunting brief of visually representing the company’s entire evolution.

Completed over the course of four months with the assistance of dozens of illustrators and animators, the two-minute piece steps away from the recontextualised objects style of his short film work, instead expanding on flip-paper animation (a style where succeeding frames of animation are placed on a flat surface and manually revealed by flipping and unfolding the paper on which they’re drawn or printed) with the use of thousands of drawings and a three-dimensional, physical space.

Following the release of the video PES has put up an exclusive behind-the-scenes look on his YouTube channel that you can watch below:

To hear more about his work and his most recent independent short film Submarine Sandwich (which has racked up over six million views and counting since its release) you can listen to our recent podcast interview with PES below:
