Jorge Gutierrez to direct new Google Spotlight Story ‘Son of Jaguar’

It has been announced today that acclaimed director Jorge Gutierrez, whose work includes the award-winning Nickelodeon series El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera and the 2014 Reel FX feature film The Book of Life, is the latest director set to join Google ATAP‘s Spotlight Stories series of animated VR film experiences. Following on from the progressive work of previous directors including Glen Keane (Duet), Patrick Osborne (Pearl) and Felix Massie (Rain or Shine) as well as The Simpsons collaboration Planet of the Couches, Jorge’s contribution to the series will be entitled Son of Jaguar.

As with previous entries in the Google Spotlight Stories series, the upcoming film will be presented as an immersive, 360° video experience with a story said to “combine Mexican wrestling and Day of the Dead themes in Jorge’s signature style”.
Reel FX, whose other features include 2013’s Free Birds, will be involved in the animation side of things, with a launch planned for sometime in 2017.
