The LEGO Movie, The Bigger Picture and Interstellar triumph at the BAFTAs

// News

This year’s British Academy Film and Television Awards hosted another evening of celebration for the world of film, with animation playing a huge part. Taking home BAFTAs this year were the NFTS film The Bigger Picture (directed by Daisy Jacobs with producer Chris Hee and Jennifer Majka) for Short Film Animated, whilst in the Feature category firm favourite The LEGO Movie walked away with the award.

Taking home the trophy for VFX was Interstellar. It has been tradition for the BAFTA for Animated feature to go on to win the equivalent award at the Oscars but for the first time since the awards were created the Oscar will not go to the same film, because The LEGO Movie isn’t nominated. That didn’t stop the directors celebrating though.

In our yearly poll we asked the Skwigly readers which films should win in each animation category and they selected both The Bigger Picture and Interstellar to win, matching the actual awards given out tonight with only the feature being different.

Two out of three isn’t a bad guess and with predictive powers like that we wait with baited breath to see how accurate our readers were in guessing who will win at the Oscars – watch this space!
