Lightbox: Haley Mancini (‘The Powerpuff Girls’)

// Women in Animation

In the latest episode of our video series Lightbox Skwigly meet Haley Mancini, writer and voice-over actress on Cartoon Network‘s 2016 reboot of The Powerpuff Girls.
First created by Craig McCracken (Dexter’s Lab, Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends), the original series in which superhero preschoolers Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup wage an unending battle against the evils that blight the city of Townsville ran from 1998-2005, spawning numerous specials and a feature film in 2002.
The new 2016 show, helmed by Nick Jennings (Adventure Time) and Bob Boyle (Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!), features an updated premise and a host of new enemies and modern challenges for the girls to face.
Skwigly met with Head Writer Haley Mancini under the stormy skies of the Annecy International Animated Film Festival to discuss the goals of the show’s new iteration, the legacy of the original series and her own role as the voice of Princess Morbucks.
