Lightbox: ‘Minions’ directors Kyle Balda & Pierre Coffin

// Interviews

In the latest episode of Lightbox Skwigly talks to Kyle Balda and Pierre Coffin, the directors of Universal/Illumination’s Minions, released in the UK this Friday (June 26th) with a wider release to follow in July.
The story of Minions takes place before the events of the popular Despicable Me series in which the titular ensemble debuted. Following the plight of the gang as they roam through history searching for a true villain to serve, they encounter Scarlet Overkill (voiced by Sandra Bullock) and attempt to ingratiate themselves by serving her felonious ends.
Minions is helmed by Kyle Balda – whose previous credits include co-directing Illumination’s The Lorax – joining forces with original Despicable Me 1 & 2 c0-director Pierre Coffin (who also lends his voice to the Minions themselves).
