WATCH: ‘My Home’ (Dir. Phuong Mai Nguyen)

// News

This week sees the public launch of Phuong Mai Nguyen‘s wonderful short film My Home. Written by Nguyen and Patricia Valeix, the film is produced by Richard and Sarah Van Den Boom‘s Papy3D Productions, the studio also responsible for such festival hits as The Head Vanishes, Edmond Was a Donkey (Franck Dion), Palmipédarium (Jérémy Clapin) and In Deep Waters (Sarah Van Den Boom) among others.

The film sees young Hugo struggling to adapt when his mother brings home a mysterious suitor, encroaching on what was once presumed to be his sole territory and leaving black feathers in his wake. Having screened at nearly 100 festivals including Clermont-Ferrand, Ottawa, Encounters, ITFS Stuttgart, KLIK, and the Manchester Animation Festival, the film has amassed over ten major awards and been broadcast on Canal+ and Arte.

Prior to My Home, Phuong Mai Nguyen (who presently works as a director, designer and animator in Paris) studied animation at Gobelins where she co-directed the student film Un tour de manège, later moving on to La Poudrière in Valence to study directing and scriptwriting. She has since directed several shorts including Hors d’usage, Mourir d’aimer, Un vrai petit génie and Point de fuite.
