Plympton Goes Simpson

// News

In keeping with what’s shaping up to be a new tradition in recent years of the uncancellable cultural institution that is The Simpsons, indie animation legend Bill Plympton has been confirmed as the guest animator for the show’s latest episode. The third such contributor (following on from Banksy in 2010 and John Kricfalusi last year) Plympton’s couch gag will open the forthcoming episode “Beware My Cheating Bart”, set to air this Sunday in the US at 8pm. According to longtime executive producer Al Jean, the sequence intimates a ‘romantic past’ between Homer and his couch, a scenario which screams Plympton in and of itself. Whether or not it will feature any mishap-prone dogs, melting faces or gratuitous violence is yet to be known. The episode’s plotline, according to the official description, will deal with Homer developing an obsession with an old television show, prompting Marge to intervene.

The couch gag segment is animated and directed by Bill Plympton and edited/produced by Desiree Stavracos, with art direction by Lindsay Woods.
