What is the film about?

My first short film, a 3D animation made as my final project on my 1 year Computer Animation short course at Sheridan College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning, Canada. It’s about a happy clown named Elidi that comes out of a pop up book who meets a sad marionette in the corner of an old study room desk, trying to make her happy.
Geoff Harvey’s The Music Box magically fits her mime!

Elidi means “The Gift of the Sun”. Sun is a symbol of new day, new smile, new hope.
A very heartwarming story made to make you all smile and happy. Please enjoy : )

“The Clown is the ” puer aeternus” , the eternal child in all of us –
It offers us respite from our self-doubts and fears, and opens the door to joy. And the best part is, we are all already our clowns. They are here inside us, waiting for us to recognize them so that they can come out and play” – Jan Henderson (foolmoon.org/clownAndMask/clownPhilosophy)

What influenced it?

1930’s vintage feel and elements, Jiří Trnka’s The Hand, Circus, Carnival, Disney’s Magic.

A little background information...

For my love of making people happy, story book, and delivering the magical feeling for all the children in our heart.

How was the film made?

Made from scratch, starts from story telling, character and set design (manual drawing), storyboards (manual drawing), animatic (Adobe After Effects), modeling (Autodesk Maya), texturing (Autodesk Maya and Adobe Photoshop – manual drawings and source images), rigging (Autodesk Maya), layout (Autodesk Maya), animation (Autodesk Maya), lighting (Autodesk Maya), compositing (Adobe After Effects).
