What is the film about?

Animated music video for ska-punk band Less Than Jake. A surreal blast of hardly-narrative character animation; creepy clocks, dancing drums and wiggling wieners!

What influenced it?

This clearly draws on a lot of references, mainly classic cartoons and movies and nostalgic drive-in commercials. My influences are hidden in plain sight throughout the whole piece!

A little background information...

I’m a lifelong fan of Less Than Jake, and there’s always been that one song on each record that perfectly aligned with my head space at the time of release, for better or worse. ‘Do The Math’ is a perfect example of this; I took the opportunity to reflect the band’s trademark of delivering a pretty heavy subject in an entertaining way.

How was the film made?

The bulk of the animation was made in 3D and rendered with a 2D look. I then worked back into most of the shots in photoshop to hand animate the details.
