What is the film about?

An oracular toaster, a volcano and a woman in the shower, Hana Sasaki offers much fodder for the imagination. This book trailer for Kelly Luce’s debut collection of short stories, is a combination of sand animation (my specialty) and hand-drawn images inspired by Japanese woodblock prints.

What influenced it?

A little background information...

Kelly and I met at the MacDowell Colony during the Great Ice Storm of ’08. A week without power in rural New Hampshire lays a good foundation for friendship. Five years later, we finally have found a reason to collaborate. Her short stories are an animators feast and perhaps this work will turn into a longer project.

How was the film made?

I shot sand animated on glass and then composited over animated drawings.
