The Simpsons – Who’s For The Chop?

// News

Over in the states The Simpson’s have just begun their 25th season. With the announcement of Season 26 to air next year, fans are expectant of more of Homer’s mishaps. However a statement from executive producer Al Jean has revealed a decision to kill-off one of the regular characters.

We’re actually working on a script where a character will pass away, I’ll give a clue that the actor playing the character won an Emmy for playing that character, but I won’t say who it is.

This is not the first time the show has given a character the chop in 2000 a T-Shirt cannon incident lead to the death of Ned Flanders spouse Maude and before that other characters to have been given the chop including Bleeding Gums Murphy, Snowball 2, Frank ‘Grimey’ Grimes, Dr Marvin Monroe and in recent years Fat Tony (replaced with his cousin identical “Fit Tony” who gradually piled on the pounds). Al Jeans clue about the actor playing the doomed character having previously won an Emmy for playing the character is not as helpful as you might think as the vast majority of the main cast (Dan Castelleneta, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardley Smith and Hank Azaria) have all been awarded an Emmy with only Harry Shearers characters seemingly in a safe spot perhaps a character voiced by a guest star such as Marcia Wallace, Kelsey Grammar, Jackie Mason or Anne Hathaway will be pushing up the daisies soon?

Heres a list of the Emmy winning characters and a few thoughts on their chances of doom.

Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa

Slight, nowadays most episodes of the Simpsons revolve around Homer killing him off would leave much of the rest of the cast with nothing to do, much the same goes for Marge, Bart and Lisa.

Abraham Simpson

The character might be old but does that mean this old timer is ready to pop his clogs? I doubt it, the writers are still squeezing “old man” jokes out of him. They would have to accept that the “old man” joke is dead before they kill off Grampa Simpson and it looks like they are in no hurry to do that.

Edna Kranappel

An interesting one, Marcia Wallace is technically a guest star in the show and appears in the show very regularly. If she is leaving could the producers be offering her character the same fate Maggie Roswell’s Maude Flanders was dealt?

Sideshow Bob

Kelsey Grammars character might be a little overused these days but could one of Sideshow Bobs evil schemes go awry for him? One of the more popular guesses.

SSBOB

Rabbi Krustofski

Krusty’s dad is hardly a “regular” cast member but a re-occuring one. Could jackie mason be returning to give his character a send off?

Princess Penelope

Anne Hathaway won an Emmy for her role as Krusty’s fiance but I’d be surprised if the death of her character would send event the most loyal Simpson fans into mourning.

Other characters eligible for a visit from the Grim Reaper are Krusty the Clown, Apu, Comic Book Guy, Carl Carlson, Lou, Chief Wiggum, Moe Syzslak, Cletus, Krusty the Clown, Groundskeeper Willie, Sideshow Mel and Barney Gumble.
