Sir David Attenborough To Narrate Animation Film For UN

It has been revealed that Sir David Attenborough, celebrated documentary presenter for over 50 years, will be narrating a short animated film as part of a United Nations campaign.

The film, Branching Out for A Green Economy, is the centrepiece of the UN campaign for International Year of the Forest. It will be supported by a series of advertisements featuring various celebrities, including Gisele Bundchen, Don Cheadle, Yann Arthus Bertrand and Li Bing Ning. The whole campaign is intended to raise awareness about the state of the world’s forests.

Branching Out For A Green Economy was commissioned out to a London-based production company. The Bespoke Film Company specialises in producing high impact films about the environment, architecture and the arts. Founded by director Natasha Serlin, the company have produced films for such household names as the BBC, Channel 4 and MTV, as well as Google and now the UN.

Natasha said that “as a life-long fan of Sir David Attenborough’s work I was delighted he agreed to be a part of this project,” adding that his presence could help “draw attention to the issue of saving the worlds forests and supporting the UNEP campaign.”

United Nations Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation

The actual animations for the project have been produced by Shroom Studios, a Hackney based animation studio. Christos Hatjoulis, the founding director of Shroom described the project as “a fantastic opportunity for us to the design the look and feel of such a high profile campaign. It represents the culmination of a series of successful animated projects with Natasha over the last few years for various clients including [UN] REDD.” REDD being the UN collaboration on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in Developing Countries.

The film is to be launched at the Global Ministerial Environmental Forum for the UN Environmental Programme (UNEP) on the 23rd February in Nairobi Kenya.
