Spectators By Ross Hogg Released Online

// News

Spectators, the Glasgow School of Arts graduation film by Ross Hogg, has been released online. Watch it here:

The film is set at a football match but cleverly turns the camera away from the game and towards the characters in a crowd that anyone who has attended a football or rugby match will instantly recognise. We join the gathered fans as they experience the highs and lows the unseen match provides.

The film has screened internationally at festivals including Ottawa, Annecy and Anima and has won Hogg the BAFTA Scotland New Talent Award for Animation in 2014, as well as a Scottish BAFTA nomination in the same year.

‘Spectators’ is an observational animation that inverts the expected focus of a football match, turning attention to those on the periphery. The film investigates social interaction and human behaviour, revealing the diversity of character found among football spectators, which can often become obscured by the mass.
