The 2nd Emile Awards Announce Winners

// News

The 2nd annual European Animation Awards have revealed the winners of the 2018 edition at a ceremony at Le Nouveau Siècle in Lille, France.

Of the 18 awards presented the big winners of the evening were The Breadwinner and The Heroic Quest of the Valiant Prince Ivandoe who both scooped 4 awards each.

The EAA’s or Émile Awards as they are named in honour of animation pioneers Émile Cohl and Émile Reynaud award individuals for their achievements in animated filmmaking, celebrating categories such as design and audio, alongside the more traditional directing awards. The awards also present the Lotte Reiniger Lifetime Achievement Award which this year was presented to Claire Kitson. As well as being a producer, writer and researcher Kitson was instrumental in creating a golden age of British Short Animation when she became the first commissioner of Animated film for Channel Four from 1989 to 1999, launching the career of many of short animations best known names. Watch a confetti covered Kitson react to receiving her deserving award below.

The majority of the awards are voted for by members. You can become a member via the website here. You can also follow the awards on Facebook where you can see more reaction videos like the one above and on Twitter.
