UK’s Gaming industry given massive £4 Million Boost

// News

For the next four years, the government has announced that they will be providing £4 million in funds to help start-up gaming companies turn their gaming ideas into a reality and help grow the industry. The Video Games Prototype Fund will run challenge-based competitions specifically aimed at graduates and students to help them showcase new games.

After a highly successful tax break for the Film and Gaming industries in the UK, it is looking incredibly promising that the government is currently prioritising this industry and giving it the support it needs to remain a confident player on the global stage. The fund will be run by the UK Games Talent and Finance CIC and it will replace the previous Prototype Fund run by Abertay Fund.

It was the UK Interactive Entertainment group that originally lobbied for this fund to be made available and they have released a small statement saying:

“We lobbied for this kind of support and we are pleased to see the VGPF launch. It has enormous potential for the future of the UK games industry. Access to finance has been an on-going challenge for small and micro games businesses, and the financial support of the fund, as well as the mentoring opportunities that are provided, will open doors to a huge amount of unearthed games talent in the UK. UKIE is really proud to continue to support this project. It is one more step towards the UK becoming a world leader in games development.”

– UKIE chief executive Dr Jo Twist

The UK Video Games industry currently generates £4.5 million per day and has had a lot of success. You can find out how to get your hands on some of this funding by clicking here.
