Vincent Morisset & NFB reunite with ‘Way to Go’

// News

Vincent Morisset has today launched his latest interactive web experience Way to Go. The project follows on from his first collaboration with the National Film Board of Canada BLA BLA, creating a virtual ‘walk in the woods’ combining hand-made animation, 360° video capture and a rich soundtrack by Philippe Lambert. The project is co-produced by France Télévisions.

WTGstill1After an initial unveiling as part of the Sundance Film Festival’s New Frontier program, the piece is Oculus Rift compatible with several public VR events scheduled to showcase Way to Go‘s fully immersive potential in the coming weeks.

We go away every day. We plunge through the city, skate down roads, tunneling toward a destination without remembering the quests we are on. A journey is a collection of moments—we are here, we are here, we are here, and yet we miss these moments. A journey is a collection of choices—turn here, stop here, choose here, and yet we surrender these choices. What if we quit surrendering? What if we didn’t miss?

WTGstill2Using hand-made animation, music, 360-degree capture technology and webGL sorcery, Way to Go is a free-to-play dream-world of journeys. Walk, run, fly; crouch in the grass and remember what’s hidden all around. Slip like a rumour from one place into another; chase your shadow; listen to the slow pulse of the metronome, black-clad, following in your wake.

Morisset’s other work includes the Sigur Rós documentary Inni and several interactive music video projects created for the band Arcade Fire, including Neon Bible and Just A Reflektor.

Way to Go – created by Vincent Morisset, Philippe Lambert, Édouard Lanctôt-Benoit and Caroline Robert of AATOAA – is available now at a-way-to-go.com and instantly compatible with a variety of web browsers, with virtual reality public events taking place in Montreal at Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois from February 25–27 and Cinéma Excentris from March 2–6.
