Wes Anderson announces new Stop Motion Film

// News

Many live action directors have attempted the journey into animation. But very few have achieved as much success and praise as Mr. Wes Anderson did when he released Fantastic Mr. Fox. It is especially hard when you are an auteur and you have to adapt your style to suit the world of animation, but Anderson achieved it seamlessly. And now he has confirmed his next film will again be a stop motion film. The quirky director stated he was considering this last year during his press tour for The Grand Budapest Hotel however he has now confirmed that his next film will not only be stop-motion but that it will be about dogs.

Like most Anderson productions, the details are being kept as sketchy as possible, however sources have confirmed that Wes is already in pre-production on the project. In 2008, Fantastic Mr. Fox gave a great number of jobs to both stop motion professionals and newcomers who got to work on Stage C at 3 Mills Studio in London and now many animators will get that chance again as The Call Sheet has confirmed that the production will be taking place there again, and they’re already looking for crew members.

One of the clear reasons Andersons transition into a new medium worked so well was due to his love of the medium. He has commonly praised stop motion due to the fact you can see the handmade love and care that has gone into it as well as it’s textual richness. Listen to the director discuss his love in this interview.

Those who know Anderson’s work well will know one of his common traits is a dog that comes to an untimely end. A quick summary of his previous canine killings include; The Royal Tenenbaums, in which a beagle gets run over; then in Fantastic Mr. Fox, another beagle munches on some blueberries that have drugs in them courtesy of Mr. Fox; in Moonrise Kingdom, a fox terrier is pierced by an arrow; and in The Life Aquatic, a three-legged pooch is brutally beat by Jeff Goldblum. So making a film that revolves around them will be interesting. Will he stick to the trait or will he surprise us? It’ll be a mystery but we can definitely say that we’re excited to see where this production goes.
