RCA grad Daniela Sherer receives Yoram Gross award at ASIF 2016

ASIF, the main annual event centered around Israeli animation since 2000 (when it was initiated and organized by ASIFA Israel) have this month announced the award-winners for their 2016 edition. Produced by the Animix Festival, the competitive event takes place every August in Tel Aviv and aims to promote “the collection, sorting, documentation of Israeli animated films”.
The recipient of this year’s prestigious Yoram Gross award – awarded annually for excellence in animation since 2008 to noteworthy Israeli animation artists – is USC and RCA graduate Daniela Sherer, whose films include Overnight Stay (2009), The Shirley Temple (2013) and the Tom Rosenthal music video Big On Questions (2016)

The award’s namesake Yoram Gross (1926-2015) produced, directed and animated the greater percentage of Israel’s commissioned animation during the 50s and 60s, as well as directing personal films and the 1961 feature Joseph the Dreamer. After immigrating to Australia in 1967 he set up Yoram Gross Films, producing numerous shorts and feature films including Dot and the Kangaroo (1977).

Best Music Video: Ma’agalim – Jane Bordeaux. (Dir. Uri Lotan/Yoav Shtibelman)

Best Music Video (runner-up): Naval – Neomi Hashmonay (Dir. Shahaf Ram)
Best Student Film: Flying Putsi (Dir. Ido Behar)

Best Student Film (runner-up): In Other Words (Dir. Tal Kantor)
