With the announcement of a two-season deal at Netflix, comedy creatives Joel Veitch and Natt Tapley have achieved the ultimate cartoon comeback.

In 2024, Netflix show Bad Dinosaurs introduced the world to a dialogue-free, colourful cast of bouncing, farting dinosaurs to fall in love with. After the broadcaster decided not to produce a second season, Showrunner Joel Veitch and Head Writer Natt Tapley set out on their own, forming a new animation and comedy production company, Sparklegoose.

They spent the next couple of years developing, pitching and producing new projects, but this week – with the announcement of a second and third series of Bad Dinosaurs – they are coming back to Netflix, to play once again in the world of flatulent pterosaurs and mischievous T-rexes.

We’re incredibly proud to be back in the world of burps, bums and brontosauruses,” said Veitch, “And can’t wait to bring these wonderful characters back to the screen. A huge thank you to Netflix for loving these dinos as much as we do, and bringing them back from the dead. Which, unfortunately, we can’t do with actual dinosaurs.

In the hiatus between seasons, Sparklegoose produced the hit Youtube series Gleeful Beasts, which amassed millions of views in its first couple of months on the platform. This led to them developing new techniques in digital puppeteering, along with their partners in San Francisco, Sans Strings Studios.

The success of Gleeful Beasts led to Sans Strings and Sparklegoose being asked to produce a new show for Lucasfilm, which will air next year.

It’s been an incredibly exciting couple of years. And incredibly heartwarming to see how people have responded to the characters and worlds we’ve created with Sans Strings. It’s nice to think that there’s still a place for slapstick mayhem, silliness, and big, heartfelt moments in a world that can feel quite bruising.

-Natt Tapley

Joel Veitch is a celebrated British web animator, singer-songwriter and television producer, best known as the creator of cult early-2000s humour website Rathergood, which brought the surreal and screeching Spongmonkeys to life, and pioneered the “undesign” movement of web animations of the 2000s.

Natt Tapley is a two-time BAFTA-winning British comedy writer, performer and director known for his extensive work across TV, radio, stage amd podcasts. Prominent credits include Bad Dinosaurs, Have I Got News For You, The Revolution Will Be Televised, and Gigglebiz.

Although the pair remain taciturn about the other projects they have in the pipeline, they have confirmed that they include other series, and a feature film. The future might look bright, but with a new series with Lucasfilm, and two upcoming seasons on Netflix, the present is pretty rosy for these long-term fixtures on the comedy scene.
