European animation is on the rise, as evidenced by the growing number of applications to the leading pitching event – CEE Animation Forum. The tenth jubilee year will take place in a hybrid format over the new dates of 2nd to 4th November 2022 and will showcase 49 animated projects of all formats in four categories – feature films, series/TV specials, short and student films.

33 works will be showcased at this year’s competition, from a total of almost 130 applications from 34 countries. These works are from a range of fresh authors and students through to the experienced matadors of animation. Among the countries with the largest presence are France (7), Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland (5), Germany (4), Slovakia (3), Slovenia (2), and one project each from Austria, Bulgaria, Italy, Lithuania, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Romania and Serbia. As is now commonplace, there is a high number of female directors, with a ratio of 24:15, which is particularly noticeable in the short films category. From the animation technique standpoint, the authors chose or combined drawing (16), 2D (16), stop motion (11), 3D (6), cut out (4) and, exceptionally, collage, pixilation or rotoscoping.

The CEE Animation Forum is a leading regional pitching, financing and co-production event. One of the objectives is to bring together to one place authors, producers and important decision makers from the animation industry. “We are honoured that experienced producers such as Sébastien Onomo (Special Touch Studios, FR), József Fülöp (SALTO Films, HU), Robert Jaszczurowski (GS Animation, PL), or Ron Dyens (Sacrebleu Productions, FR) regularly return to our event, looking for partners for their ambitious projects,” explained Marta Jallageas, managing director of CEEA Forum.

An important part of the programme is also an audience with representatives of national televisions and the accompanying discussion panel.

CEE Animation Forum also serves as a gateway to the professional world for fresh young film professionals. European universities clearly see the sense and added value of the event for their students, regularly sending their representatives and thereby showcasing the talent pool of current young animators. Last but not least, accredited guests will be able to familiarise themselves with a selection of non-competing projects – the selection of the CEE Animation Workshop 2022 and animated works which have been positively evaluated at partner events such as AnimatekaPRO, Animarkt, Animest, Kids Kino Industry and one student project from Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art – University of West Bohemia in Plzen.

The event will take place in hybrid form. Accredited guests may participate in the programme either in person in Pilsen or join online. The organisers of the CEEA Forum have also joined forces with another industry event, the Animarkt Stop Motion Forum (which takes place from 5th to 8th November) and are offering an advantageously priced joint accreditation to both events. “Working together gives a great opportunity to reach many more people working in the animation industry, allows us to share experience and integrate the animation industries. We are convinced that this is just the beginning of our cooperation,” emphasis Agnieszka Kowalewska-Skowron, from MOMAKIN, the Head of the ANIMARKT Stop Motion Forum.
