NFB and UQAM use animation to raise sexual awareness for International Women’s Day

// News

In anticipation of International Women’s Day this Friday (March 8th), the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) will today be launching the animated mobile interactive game Clit-me in collaboration with the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). The five-minute online experience aims to educate users on bridging the “orgasm gap”, the disparity that sees 62% of heterosexual women and 75% of lesbian women able to reach orgasm from their first sexual encounter with a new partner, as opposed to 85% of men*. Taking a lighthearted approach to the subject of female sexual satisfaction, Clit-me uses a combination of stop-motion and 2D animation for users to interact with a customisable clitoris avatar, exploring a variety of motion “techniques” to see what yields the best results. The project was developed at the NFB’s Digital Studio by participants in UQAM’s Jeunes pousses interactive school, which brought together eight participants from programs spanning journalism, interactive media and graphic design working under executive producer Hugues Sweeney and editorial manager Valérie Darveau.

We all know what a penis looks like. Perhaps it’s high time we got to know more about the clitoris! To promote Clit-me, the NFB uses contrast and humour—an approach proposed by creative agency Rethink—to illustrate the glaring disparity in our knowledge of male vs. female genitalia.
