This year’s edition of the Fredrikstad Animation Festival has revealed its full programme, with ticket reservations open as of today. Highlights of the 2022 edition include:

FILM PROGRAMMES

In addition to the Nordic-Baltic competition programmes, the festival will hold several out of competition film programmes. Some complement seminars and some highlight the latest animation from around the globe.
FILM GUIDE

  • Best of International Shorts
    Two programmes with films hand-picked by the festival administration from a selection of international animation festivals.
  • Animated Queer Night at TÆPS
    These films are suitable to watch together over a drink, and might also awaken your senses and thoughts – all in good spirits and remembering that diversity is what unites us.
  • Abstraction at hoi polloi
    In collaboration with the best wine and sake bar in Fredrikstad, the festival presents a selection of the best abstract and non-figurative animated films from the international animation scene.
  • Sing a Bit of Harmony
    Sing a Bit of Harmony tells the story of the beautiful and mysterious Shion who transfers to Keibu High School where she quickly becomes popular but she turns out to be an AI in the testing phase!

Film Love Passes will get you into all Film screenings but the Seminars listed below will need a Industry All Access Pass or Student Pass.

THURSDAY HIGHLIGHTS – EDUCATION

  • EduFest – Narissa Schander and Vibeke Heide (TICKETS)
  • Symposium: Researching Animation – Nordic Perspectives (TICKETS)
    In this Symposium produced with University College of Volda,We will ask questions about animated literacy, media archeology, new forms of collaborations in VR, the potential health benefits of video games, and the political importance of letting students tell their own stories.
  • Education Stands
    There will be higher education schools from around Norway at FAF. Find them in the cinema foyer between 10:30 and 16:30 on Thursday. Game School – Høgskolen i Innlandet will be there on Friday and Saturday as well. The Game School prepares students for careers such as graphic artists, animators, modelers, riggers, and programmers.
  • Thursday will also feature the Nordic-Baltic Competition screenings for Student Film, Short Film 1, Children’s Film and Young Audience Film programmes.

FRIDAY HIGHLIGHT – PRODUCERS

The third edition of the Norwegian Production Day will focus on Japanese Anime, and the speakers are well-recognized Japanese producers and directors in the animation industry. The Animation Convention is organized by Animasjon Norge, a subdivision of Produsentforeningen Virke, Qvisten Animation and the Fredrikstad Animation Festival, in collaboration with Frame by Frame.

As part of Animation Production Day, there will be screenings on Friday that highlights some of the projects from the speakers of the three part seminar series.

Friday evening the festival takes over a local culture house, St. Croix Huset. There will be panels, dinner and a concert. See the complete schedule for more details on Friday’s offerings. (COMPLETE SCHEDULE)

SATURDAY HIGHLIGHT – CREATIVES

  • Peter de Sève – Masterclass I (TICKETS)
    A master in the discipline of character design, Peter de Sève, whose credits include “Ice Age”, “Finding Nemo” and many more, presents unique insights into his creative process.
  • Mark Burton – Masterclass II (TICKETS)
    Recognized as one of the greatest screenwriters for animation in Europe, Mark Burton shares his experience of being a festure animation writer in the UK and Hollywood.
  • Marie-Laure Guisset – Masterclass III (TICKETS)
    Marie-Laure presents tips and tricks gathered during her career of more than 20 years, while having a closer look at the animation style of “Titina” and the theme of “Acting in Animation”.
  • New Nordic Animation (TICKETS)
    What’s cooking in the Nordic countries? FAF has invited four speakers from Denmark, Finland, Sweden, and Norway to present their latest projects. Norwegian CGI studio Expanse’s producer Fredrik Fottland will present their recent work for the live-action animated feature film, Teddybjørnes jul.

MEET THE…

New this year, FAF has invited specialists on the business side of the industry to provide valuable insight in their fields. Also the Meet the Filmmaker panel is opening to include the student filmmakers.
