The Ibero-American Animation Quirino Awards have opened their call for the different categories of their fourth edition, which will be held on May 27th, 28th and 29th, 2021.

The initiative, which will take place in Tenerife for the fourth consecutive year –and after the unprecedented success of the 2020 edition, which was carried out online– seeks to value the talent and the industry of Ibero-American animation. The call for submission is open to animated works from the 23 countries of the region that have been released between January 1st, 2020 and December 31st, 2020, except in the case of feature films, series and animation for video games, in which works premiered between June 1st, 2019 and December 31st, 2020 can compete.

The call includes nine categories: feature film, series, short film, school short film, commissioned film, video game animation, sound design and original music, visual development and animation design. The works must be submitted through the Festhome platform before January 7th at 11:59 P.M. (Spanish time).

Among all the submitted works, there will be six nominees per category, which will be announced in February 2021. Among those selected works, an international jury will choose three finalists in each category that will be the ones who will compete for the awards that will be given at the ceremony that will take place on Mayth.

In 2020, the Spanish feature film “Klaus” by Sergio Pablos, the Brazilian series “Tainá and the Amazon’s Guardians” by André Forni, the Colombian short film “The Cubicbird” by Jorge Alberto Vega, and the Portuguese school short film “Nestor” by João Gonzalez were the works recognized in the main categories.

In addition to recognizing the best Ibero-American animation works in nine categories, the Quirino Awards are the framework for the Co-production and Business Forum. A hundred animation companies from 19 countries participated in the latest edition of this industry activity, which included more than 800 professional meetings. In the coming months, the activities included in this industry program will be announced, as well as the requirements for participating.
