Aardman release teaser for new series ‘Lloyd of the Flies’

// News

In honour of Insect Week, Bristol studio Aardman Animations have unveiled a teaser for their upcoming CiTV series Lloyd of the Flies. Made with support from the BFI Young Audiences Content Fund (an initiative that was disappointingly scrapped earlier this year), the project marks the continued expansion of Aardman’s project roster as its first “in-house” CG production with a major brand push planned for the show and its characters, including an AR app scheduled to launch alongside the 52 x 11’ series in September of this year. The series is created and directed by Matt Walker (whose prior work includes A Liar’s Autobiography and The Lonely Dodo with accolades including Best Graduation Film at Annecy 2006) joined by Co-director and Voice Director Jane Davies with Aardman’s Sarah Cox acting as Executive Creative Director.

Lloyd of the Flies shines a light on the weird, wonderful, and sometimes bizarre world of insects and their behaviour. The series follows the adventures of Lloyd B Fly, a housefly and the middle child of 453. Lloyd lives with his parents, his little sister PB and their 225 maggot siblings inside a compost bin they call home. In the series, Lloyd is always accompanied by his best and only friend, Abacus Woodlouse, PB, and eccentric tag-along, Cornea Butterfly. Together they explore the strange world beyond the compost bin, where there is no shortage of lessons for Lloyd to very nearly learn.

Accompanying these first animated visuals is the announcement of cast addition Jamie-Lee O’Donnell (Derry Girls, Screw) as Louse Hunter, “a spider who only hunts woodlice for the challenge and thrill of the chase” and Yard the bumble bee starring alongside Tom Rosenthal (Friday Night DinnerPlebs) as Lloyd. Other announced cast include Alex Lawther (The End of the F***ing WorldBlack Mirror) as Lloyd’s best friend Abacus, Lauren Patel as PB, Teresa Gallagher as Cornea Butterfly and Callum Scott Howells (It’s A Sin) as Berry, Lloyd’s nemesis. Additional cast include Pearl Mackie, Rob Rackstraw, Kathryn Drysdale, Jason Pennycook, Maya Sondhi, Shaun Miller, Ayesha Antoine and Marcel McCalla.

Launching our first in-house CGI series marks an exciting new development for Aardman as well as the advent of new talent from the studio bringing their ideas to life. With a host of incredible voices alongside exceptional crew, drawn from all over the world, we can’t wait to share Lloyd of the Flies with audiences from this autumn. This comedic new series will entertain the whole family and we are sure that it will create a real buzz in living rooms.

-Sean Clarke, Managing Director of Aardman

Lloyd of the Flies premieres on CiTV in the UK this September
