For the second consecutive year, Next Lab Generation, the initiative that brings together art and technology in the animation and digital content industry and which is mainly sponsored by the Community of Madrid, was present at the prestigious Annecy International Animation Film Festival.

Thanks to the support of the ICAA, Instituto de la Cinematografía de las Artes Audiovisuales, the four selected proposals attended Annecy MIFA 2022 on June 16th, where the organizers of the French event granted them free accreditation, as well as the opportunity to make a pitch and talk about their experience at the world’s largest animation festival and market, which brings together thousands of professionals every year. The presentation also featured the participation of Jose Luis Farias, director of Next Lab Generation, who shared with the professionals attending the festival the challenges and opportunities offered by the incorporation of disruptive technologies in animation production.

Under the title “Next Lab Generation: les technologies de rupture dans l’industrie de l’animation”, the winners of the 2022 edition were presented: the feature film Oblivion by Argentinian Claudia Ruiz and the short film Lumen by Spanish Enric Sant; and the special mentions for Spanish projects Viaje al Bosque Olvidado, a feature film by Noelia María Muiño, and the series Onion & Pea by José Manuel Villena and David Tomaselli.  The creators gave a pitch in which they talked about their experience at the workshop and gave details about the progress of their work.

Last February, after a specialized seven-week workshop, these four projects were selected as winners by a jury made up of top professionals such as Arnaud Miquel, Carmen Córdoba, Manuel González, Nick Ladd and Úrsula García. The awards ceremony put the finishing touch to the second edition of this event, which consolidated itself in Madrid as a reference forum for the animation industry.

As a novelty in its next edition, Next Lab Generation has received aid for laboratories and incubators for the creation and development of audiovisual projects, awarded by the ICAA. This grant will allow Next Lab Generation to support the five winners with a scholarship, so that they can continue working on the development of their projects.

Next Lab 2022 has the main sponsorship of the Community of Madrid, through the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sport; the sponsorship of Europa Creativa MEDIA, DeAPlaneta Entertainment and the General Directorate of Cultural Industries, Intellectual Property and Cooperation of the Ministry of Culture and Sport; the collaboration of Enisa, Annecy Festival, ICAA and Weird Market; and the support of Tangram Solutions, Welaw, Pixel Cluster Madrid, Clan VR , Real or Virtual and Mr.Cohl.
