Nexus Design Studio creates ‘This is Your Brain on Food’ identity series for Postmates

// News

Nexus Design Studio, a division of the BAFTA, Emmy and Cannes Grand Prix-winning global creative company Nexus Studios dedicated to motion design, has created This is Your Brain on Food – nine compelling films for Postmates “illustrating the unique, visceral sensations evoked by that first delectable bite of food”. Directed by Nexus Design Studio’s Creative Director Harry Butt, each film presents a focus on a variety of dishes available through the Postmates app, “from the fiery thrill of Nashville Hot Chicken to the bouncy world of Boba tea and the serene joy of sushi”.

This was a major opportunity for Nexus Design Studio to show what it does best – a style agnostic execution under a single creative direction. We are bringing in the talent of our studio in-house and turning to our pool of trusted partners and directors to produce specific niche styles where necessary.

My goal was to immerse the audience in the personal moment of savouring the first bite of their favourite dish and the full range of experiences that come with it by going really specific in the storylines. Whether it’s to chase the high of spicy food, to kick-start a sugar rush, or to jolt your body into action from a healthy juice shot. After writing each mini-narrative, we set the tone and partnered each film with incredibly talented artists who brought each story to life in their own distinct style.

Developed by Postmates’ LA-based creative agency, Mother, the collection of short, mixed-media pieces were brought to life by a team of creatives selected by Butt, spanning directors, animators, and designers. The artists involved include Veronica SolomonGustaf HoltenäsAngela KirkwoodDante ZaballaDouble Up Studiobus.group, alongside Nexus Studios veterans Laurie RowanShynolaJack Cunningham, and Fantasista Utamaro. The end result sees each film imbued with its own distinct visual voice and creative approach, with a range of styles and method including stop-motion, CG, 2D and scratch-on-film.
