Nexus Studios is delighted to announce the signing of Alex Grigg to its global creative studio. With an impressive back catalogue of award-winning films, Alex has made a name for himself through his refined and painterly 2D aesthetic, knowing humour and ability to tap into key cultural moments. Through his education programme, Alex’s commitment to enriching the industry by arming the next generation of animators with accessible skills, has earned him great respect amongst his peers.

Alex joins a growing roster of Directors based in Australia, including Robertino Zambrano, Haein & Paul and Mighty Nice. Having previously worked with clients such as The New York Times, BBC and Cartoon Network to Cocacola and Mailchimp, Alex’s ability to tap into the positive cultural conversation guides him to projects with meaning. A prime example being his visualisation of the comedian Trevor Noah’s fascination with the weaponization of words, particularly in relation to safe spaces in his thought-provoking short for WeTransfer. He directed two mesmerising episodes of Headspace’s animated stress management series on Netflix, while his multi-award winning short film Phantom Limb was lauded for its poignant depiction of life and love after amputation, filled with metaphor and unspoken meaning.

Garnering attention from the industry, Alex’s work has earned him Official Selections at Annecy International Animation Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival and Pictoplasma, also picking up Best Animation Awards at Cannes Lions and Sydney Film Festival. Other accolades include Webby Awards, Hiroshima International Animation Festival Special Jury Prize and an Honorable Mention at Ottawa International Animation Festival. He was part of the animation collective, Late Night Work Club.

We’ve known and admired Alex for a long while as a unique talent in animation. He has an amazing graphic sensibility and a talent for emotionally driven storytelling. We are delighted to have this chance to work together.

– Chris O’Reilly, Nexus Studios Co-Founder and Executive Creative Director
