‘Riverdance: The Animated Adventure’ to debut on Sky

The original new feature film Riverdance: The Animated Adventure which is co-produced by Aniventure and River Productions today revealed it will debut on Sky on the 28th May.

Riverdance: The Animated Adventure, a Sky Original follows an Irish boy named Keegan (Sam Hardy) and a Spanish girl named Moya (Hannah Herman Cortes) as they journey into the mythical world of the legendary Megaloceros Giganteus, who teach them to appreciate Riverdance as a celebration of life.

Directed by Eamonn Butler and Dave Rosenbaum and featuring an original score from Grammy Award winning composer Bill Whelan, Riverdance: The Animated Adventure also stars Pierce Brosnan (Die Another Day, Mamma Mia!), Lilly Singh (Bad Moms, Ice Age: Collision Course), Jermaine Fowler (Coming 2 America, Friends of the People), Pauline McLynn (Father Ted, The Young Offenders), John Kavanagh (Vikings, Alexander), Aisling Bea (This Way Up, Living with Yourself) andBrendan Gleeson (Calvary, the Harry Potter series) plus features a brand-new single by Ireland’s musical sensation, Lyra.

This transcendent entertainment is what makes Riverdance a unique and exciting source for an animated feature. Our film celebrates the power of music and dance in new, unexpected ways.  It illustrates the richness of Ireland’s history, nature and people. And it brings to the screen an original world full of comedy and drama, drawn from our imagination.

Theatrical stage show Riverdance, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2020, is one of the most successful theatrical productions of all time.  To be faithful to its roots, Riverdance: The Animated Adventure features the dancers’ incredible craft and skill, by utilising motion capture of their performances to create the animated dancing in the film.

This animation brings Riverdance to its next incarnation, a new and exciting phase which brings together dance, music, Irish folklore and global mythology to create an experience which can be shared by families across the generations. It brings the Riverdance spectacle to a new audience while allowing those who have journeyed with the show for twenty-five years to bring those memories into a new setting, one filled with laughter, tears and moving storytelling.
