MetFilm reveals trailer and release date for Claude Barras stop-mo feature ‘Savages’

MetFilm Distribution have announced a summer release for SAVAGES, from visionary filmmaker Claude Barras. Marking the long awaited follow up to the BAFTA and Academy Award nominated stop-motion animation My Life As A Courgette, Savages will be released in cinemas across the UK and Ireland on 1st August both in its original French language and in an English dubbed version for younger audiences.
Savages, with a screenplay by Claude Barras and Catherine Paillé, is a film for all ages, boasting breathtaking animation and a story that is powerful and ever pertinent for our times.
At the edge of Borneo’s vast rainforest, Kéria rescues a baby orangutan found in the palm plantation where her father works. Together, with her young cousin Selaï — who comes to live with them, seeking refuge from the conflict between his indigenous tribe and the logging companies — the trio brave every obstacle in their battle against the planned destruction of the rainforest, their ancestral home.
Voice cast includes Babette De Coster (Keria), Martin Verset (Selaï), Laëtitia Dosch (Jeanne), Benoît Poelvoorde (Mutang) and Pierre-Isaïe Duc (Along Sega). Savages is produced by Nicolas Burlet with co-producers Laurence Petit, Barbara Letellier, Carole Scotta, Vincent Tavier, Hugo Deghilage, Annemie Degryse, and Olivier Glassey.

Claude Barras is an award-winning director and producer from Switzerland. His first feature-length film in stop-motion, My Life as a Courgette (co-written with Céline Sciamma) premiered at Cannes in 2016 in Directors’ Fortnight. The film opened to critical acclaim, won two César Awards and received Academy Award and BAFTA nominations for Best Animated Feature. Savages premiered at a Special Screening in Official Selection at the 2024 Cannes Festival.
