CEE Animation, in partnership with national film institutions and organizations from Central and Eastern Europe, has launched the call for the CODA – Co-Development Animation Awards, a new funding initiative designed to support early-stage animation development and strengthen cross-border collaboration across the region.

The CODA – Co-Development Animation Awards support the co-development of animated projects across all formats, with a particular focus on the earliest stages of development, when funding is often the most difficult to secure. As a membership-based initiative, they are open to projects from participating countries with strong international potential for distribution, festival circulation or theatrical release.

Independent producers from the CODA member countries are invited to apply until 27 September 2026. Eligible projects include animated films of any length and animated series, in four categories:

• Animated Short Film Co-development – EUR 5,000
• Animated Feature Film Co-development – EUR 20,000
• Animated Series Co-development – EUR 20,000
• Animated TV Special Co-development – EUR 20,000

Applications are open to independent producers whose production companies are majority-owned by nationals of the CODA member countries: Estonia, Croatia, Hungary, Kosovo, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia. Each project must involve at least two independent production companies from two different CODA member countries.

The winners will be announced in November 2026.

Operationally run by CEE Animation and the Slovene Animated Film Association, the CODA – Co-Development Animation Awards are the result of more than a decade of regional collaboration and industry-building efforts.

The initiative continues to welcome new members, with its current member countries represented by the Estonian Film Institute, Croatian Audiovisual Centre, National Film Institute Hungary, Kosovo Cinematography Center, Polish Animation Producers’ Association, Slovak Film Institute and Slovenian Film Centre.

A new online platform dedicated to animated film is entering the European scene. Animation HUB (AHUB), launched by CEE Animation, is a curated space connecting audiences, educators, and film professionals with high-quality animated works.

Animation HUB responds to a long-standing issue within the animation sector. While short animated films regularly circulate through festivals, they often become difficult to access once their festival run ends. AHUB addresses this problem by guiding users towards legally available films across different platforms and bringing them together within one curated environment.

Thousands of animated films travel through festivals every year, yet many of them disappear from public visibility shortly after their premiere. At the same time, we live in an age of content overload, where discovering quality animation beyond the algorithms of major platforms is becoming increasingly difficult. At CEE Animation, we believe this is exactly the moment when curated spaces matter again, helping audiences discover films with context, trust, and deeper understanding. CEE Animation created AHUB to help European animation remain visible, accessible, and alive long after its premiere.

Rather than competing with major streaming services, AHUB positions itself as a cultural guide. The platform offers thematic collections, curated selections of nearly 4,000 high-quality animated works, editorial content, and educational materials that encourage audiences to perceive animation not only as a genre, but as an artistic form.

A Curated Space for Different Audiences

The platform is designed for a wide range of users. General audiences can discover films through collections organised by theme, style, or age group. Festival and more demanding audiences will find auteur works often missing from large streaming platforms. Educators and students gain access to contextualised content suitable for educational purposes.

The platform also includes editorial content, such as interviews with international animation creators and producers, thematic articles, and updates on festivals and industry developments. AHUB therefore functions not only as a database, but also as a living source of context and inspiration.

From Discovery to Professional Connection

An important part of the platform is not only its curatorial approach, but also its support for the life cycle of animated films. This is why the New in Line section was created, focusing on newly finished animated films ready for distribution. The section helps increase the visibility of recent productions among festivals, distributors, broadcasters, and the wider professional community.

Another key element of the platform is the upcoming AHUB Pro section, which will serve as a professional space for creators, producers, and other industry players. It will support project presentation, partner discovery, and access to professional information, helping strengthen collaboration within the European animation sector.

With the upcoming AHUB Pro section, CEE Animation responds to a clear industry need: a dedicated space where producers can present their animated projects in development or production and connect directly with international decision-makers, such as festival programmers, sales agents, distributors, broadcasters, or co-producers. As a new and innovative business tool, AHUB Pro aims to improve the circulation of European animated works and strengthen their visibility across international markets.

This award emerges from a new partnership with the Council of Europe, home of Eurimages, under its Pilot Programme for Series Co-productions, which aims to support high-quality series made as international co-productions, empower independent producers and foster new relationships. The CEE Animation Forum is the first industry event dedicated to animated works included in the Programme’s partnering measure.

Held annually every November in Pilsen, Czechia, CEE Animation Forum is a leading pitching, financing, and co-production platform in Central and Eastern Europe, and a key meeting point for the wider European animation industry.

Since its launch in 2013, the CEE Animation Forum has supported animated series, while more than 350 projects have been presented and successfully matched with co-production partners. Over the years, it has strategically prioritized series development through a range of targeted professional activities. As a result, the CEEA Forum has established itself as the go-to platform in the region for the financing and co-production of high-quality animated series.

Animated series are a format that requires specific support, and we have been focusing on it since the beginning. We are pleased that our efforts have been recognized by the Council of Europe and that, through this partnership, we can bring additional support to the animation sector.

CEE Animation Forum presents a diverse pitching competition spanning four categories: TV or Web Series and TV Specials, Feature Films, Short Films, and Student Short Films. In addition to pitching, the event features tailored one-on-one business meetings, an online Market, masterclasses and specialized closed-door sessions with key industry stakeholders, including broadcasters, producers, and educational institutions.

Each year, the event presents around 30 selected projects and engages nearly 200 professionals from across Europe. Its other awards include valuable cash and non-monetary prizes, such as placements in top European training programs, markets, and services worth more than €50,000.

CEE Animation Forum, one of the leading events for pitching, financing and co-production of European animated projects, has launched a call for entries for its 14th edition, taking place November 10–12 in Pilsen, Czech Republic. Projects can be submitted to the pitching competition in four categories: Feature Films, Series and TV Specials, Short Films, and Student Short Films. 

Each year, film professionals from across Europe gather to attend the CEE Animation Forum’s highlight: the pitching competition featuring the most promising European animation projects. Through complementary networking activities such as the Market and one-to-one meetings, the CEE Animation Forum focuses on building lasting collaborations and exploring co-production, financing, and distribution opportunities. It also creates space for producers and studios to connect with experienced partners or emerging talents and exchange best practices.

Submissions are open to European animated projects in four categories:

• Feature Films – minimum length of 60 minutes; in concept or in development
• Series and TV Specials – TV and web series of any format and single films, minimum length of 20 minutes; all stages of development except for concept stage
• Short Films – maximum length of 20 minutes; all stages of development (except for concept stage) or pre-production
• Student Short Films – maximum length of 20 minutes; all stages of development (except for concept stage) or pre-production

The deadline for submissions is May 10, 2026.

Now entering its eighth edition, the CEE Animation Workshop welcomes a new selection of projects and participants. Twelve projects and 31 participants from 18 countries have been carefully chosen from 55 applications submitted from 27 countries. Participants and their teams will embark on a year-long intensive programme, developing projects from early concept to market-ready production packages.

This year’s lineup includes 6 feature films, 3 TV series and 3 short films. Once again, the workshop welcomes participants from across Europe while maintaining focus on the CEE region and low production capacity countries. Producers and their creative teams with selected projects, including a scholarship-winning project from CEE Animation Forum 2025, will be joined by two career-oriented participants without projects, as well as two animation script consultant trainees, a new category introduced this year.

Throughout the year, participants will engage in group work, masterclasses, expert lectures, and individual consultations, under the guidance of group leaders: esteemed producers Réka Temple (Cinemon Entertainment, HU) and Annemie Degryse (Lumiere Group / Beast Studio, BE), and seasoned script consultants Phil Parker (UK) and Rita Domonyi (HU).

The workshop will consist of four modules: two online (May and October) and two on-site (February 23–March 1 in Lillehammer, Norway, and July 27–August 2 in Budapest, Hungary). Upon completing the workshop, participants will gain privileged access to the CEE Animation network and various industry and market events across Europe.

We are ready to launch the 2026 edition of the year-long workshop with new partners and old friends. We are grateful for the continuous support of the Creative Europe – MEDIA, and thankful to our partners Lillywood and Animation Norway to have the opportunity to visit Lillehammer now and to the Hungarian Animation Producers Association to be able to go to Budapest in the summer, and connect with both animation industries. Rise & Shine, an animation development and pitching lab, is looking for projects and participants for its 2026 edition. Organised by Animafest Zagreb in collaboration with Animateka International Animated Film Festival and CEE Animation, Rise & Shine supports emerging talents developing their first or second professional short animated film.

The call is open to short animated projects (up to 20 minutes) in development by first- and second-time filmmakers from the CEE region, with a particular focus on Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Slovenia and Italy. It also welcomes EU participants with an interest in collaboration with the CEE region.

The application deadline is 10 March 2026.

A total of 10 teams will be selected through the open call, with an additional 11th project joining via direct selection from Pitch, please!, organised by Animest International Animation Film Festival. Selected teams will receive a programme of lectures, workshops, individual and group sessions with seasoned film professionals in the field of animation.

The three-part lab will take place in June 2026 at the World Festival of Animated Film – Animafest Zagreb in Croatia, continue online in October 2026, and culminate in December 2026 at Animateka International Animated Film Festival in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Participants will compete for several awards, including Rise & Shine Audience Award, CEE Animation Forum Award – direct selection to the 2027 Short Film pitching category, Rise & Shine Film Centre of Montenegro Award (1,500 EUR) and Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Market 2027 Attendance.

29 animated projects in Pitching Competition, 40 on the Market; Almost 200 industry professionals including decision-makers from European broadcasters, festivals, leading distributors and production houses.

CEE Animation Forum, the leading regional pitching, financing, and co-production market for European animated projects, returns to Pilsen on November 4–6, 2025. The 13th edition will spotlight the creativity in European animation through 29 pitching projects from 15 countries, across four categories: 9 short films, 8 student shorts, 6 series, and 6 feature films. This year’s lineup offers a blend of projects from CEE countries alongside those from Western Europe. About 70% of the projects come from the CEE region, led by Czechia (5), Poland (4), and Hungary (3).

The selection caters to a diverse range of audiences, with 12 projects aimed at children, 7 for teenagers and young adults, and 10 for adult viewers. Projects were chosen from a record 199 submissions, which marks a 62% increase from 2024 and more than double the number from 2023. In preparation for their final pitches, participating teams benefited from the guidance of distinguished tutors: pitching coach Sibylle Kurz and producer Karolina Davidova (13ka).

Almost 200 industry professionals, from producers and directors to broadcasters, sales agents and representatives of national film funds, festivals and universities, will attend. This year’s juries bring together an impressive group of high-profile industry guests, including NRK – Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation representative; international distribution and sales experts from Mediatoon Distribution (FR), Falcon (CZ) and ShortsFit Distribution (ARG/IT), as well as seasoned producers from XBO Films (FR), Cinnamon Entertainment (BE), and Avec ou sans vous (FR).

Joining them are Caroline Maleville, Programming Manager at the Cinémathèque Française and member of Cannes Director’s Fortnight selection committee; Shelley Page, Head of Talent at Locksmith Animation (UK); Martina Peštaj, media psychologist (SI); filmmakers behind acclaimed animated works: Mirjana Balogh (Wish You Were Ear, winner of the Crystal Bear for Best Short Film at Berlinale 2025) and Réka Bucsi (Love, European Film Award nominee 2017; Solar Walk, Grand Prix at Ottawa IAF, 2018).

The intensive two-day programme will consist of four pitching sessions culminating in an award ceremony on the evening of November 6, as well as Market activities, one-to-one meetings and networking opportunities. Panel discussion Building Financing Bridges for European Animation will highlight the new CODA Codevelopment Award, initiated by CEE Animation and supported by several national film funds, designed to strengthen the Central and Eastern European animation sector.

Complementing the Pitching Competition, this year’s Market will showcase a diverse range of  animated projects in development, production, or nearing completion from accredited CEEA Forum guests. Designed as a networking tool, the Market aims to boost the visibility of participants’ work and facilitate onsite connections, helping authors explore the project lineup and find potential partners more easily.

A total of 31 projects, divided into four categories – 9 features, 7 TV series, 9 short films, and 6 student shorts – were included in the Pitching Competition. The selected projects cover a diverse range of topics and target audiences, from children up to the age of 12 (10 projects) and teenagers (5) to adults and young adults (16). The total budget for these projects exceeds staggering 40 million EUR.

I am amazed by the overall quality of the pitches and the energy invested in these incredible animated film projects. The majority of them left the audience breathless. The bravery and enthusiasm with which the presenters—both young students and experienced filmmakers with highly ambitious projects—performed on stage is truly inspiring. We are proud to see the projects that participated in our other activities, like CEE Animation Workshop or Rise and Shine pitching lab, come well-prepared and start their successful development.

CEE Animation Workshop is a year-long training programme for developing projects and enhancing the skills of producers and their creative teams in the field of animation. It is open for international animation professionals, with a focus on creators and projects from countries with low production capacity.

The Workshop is tailor-made to suit the needs of producers and their creative teams with animated projects of any format (shorts, TV, feature-length, hybrid, XR) in development and is also open to a limited number of career-oriented participants, joining the workshop without a project and seeking to build a long-term strategy for their company.

The 7th edition of the CEE Animation Workshop will take place from March to October 2025 and will consist of 4 one week modules; 2 modules will be held online and 2 modules will be organized on-site. The program is led by renowned producers and animation script consultants in the roles of group leaders, who closely follow and mentor projects for the duration of the program.

Script consultants Phil Parker (United Kingdom) and Rita Domonyi (Hungary) will be joined in 2025 by two new group leaders, renowned producers Reka Temple (Cinemoon Entertainment, Hungary) and Annemie Degryse (Lumiere Group / Beast Studio, Belgium)

The participants will finish the year with the final presentation of a full production package and a pitch to a carefully selected group of industry players, such as representatives of funding bodies, broadcasters, producers, festival programmers, sales agents and distributors in the format of one-on-one meetings. The participants will also be invited to attend the CEE Animation Forum 2025.

After the completion of the CEE Animation Workshop, participants can take advantage of the CEE Animation network and gain privileged access to various international industry and market events.

As the level of the CEE animation industry is steadily improving, we are expecting again to see inspiring projects with diverse stories and driven creators, eager to learn and share their knowledge, to join us in 2025.

The CEE Animation Workshop has in the previous five years helped develop more than 70 projects from 220 participants from around the globe. More than 200 guest expert lecturers and animation industry representatives have shared their knowledge with the participants with the goal to improve participants’ skills and enrich the field of animation production in European countries with low production capacity.
