Manchester, UK Manchester Animation Festival (MAF), the UK’s only Oscar® and BAFTA®-qualifying animation festival is proud to present the return of the Animation Nation Forum (ANF), a one-day summit packed with industry-focussed panels and discussions dedicated to the UK’s animation industry. Taking place on Wednesday 12 November 2025 at Bridgewater Hall, ANF brings together leading voices from across the sector to explore the cutting edge conversations shaping the animation sector internationally.

The day begins with a welcome breakfast hosted by Liquid Violet, offering attendees a chance to connect before diving into a full programme of panels and discussions. The opening address will set the stage with a look at regional animation activity and its growing influence on national and international markets.

Animation Nation Forum

Throughout the day, sessions will tackle the most pressing issues facing the industry.  A panel on co-producing for global audiences, Unlocking International Success, will explore how UK studios are forging international partnerships to reach wider markets with speakers Sarah Muller (Senior Head of Commissioning 7+, BBC) and Marc Du Pontavice (CEO and Founder, Xilam Animation). Another session, In the Frame: The Future Normal, featuring panelists Darran Garnham (Founder, Toikido) James Cameron (Creative Director, Imaginakery) and Rob Doherty (Kids Content Specialist and Exec Producer) examines how shifts in technology and audience behaviour are reshaping production and sustainability.

Independent animated features take centre stage in Features of the Future, sponsored by Locksmith Animation, where filmmaker Andrew Baker (CEO/Founder Cantilever Media, Kazoo Films, Moonshot Films) and Liz Warren (Fund Manager, BFI Filmmaking Funds) discuss how smaller productions are making waves at the box office. The day wraps with State of the Animation Nation, a candid conversation between Andrew Ruhemann (Founder, Passion Pictures) Camilla Deakin (Joint MD, Lupus Films), Julio Bonet (Director of Animated Series, Netflix), Kate O’Connor (Executive Chair, Animation UK) and Oli Hyatt (MD, Blue Zoo) about the challenges and opportunities ahead for UK animation.

Festival Director Steve Henderson said:

We’re thrilled to welcome the industry back to The Bridgewater Hall for this year’s Animation Nation Forum as it continues to evolve into a key gathering point for the entire animation sector. At a time of significant change across the global content landscape, the ANF provides a space to connect, collaborate and chart a course for the future aWe highlight the expert voices that are guiding those changes through our informative panels, meeting opportunities and networking. Animation remains the world’s greatest storytelling medium, but it is also a vital driver for economic and cultural growth. This year’s unmissable ANF will showcase what the future has in store for our industry.”

Alongside the summit, MAF will host the festival’s annual industry marketplace at Bridgewater Hall – a free-to-attend event designed to foster networking between studios, recruiters, and animation professionals. Companies attending the marketplace include Animation Associates, Autodesk, BenQ, Blue Zoo, Cloth Cat, HUE, Industrial Light & Magic, Marks & Clerk, Skydance Animation, Toom Boom, University of Salford and Wacom. Six months after its launch, fstvs.net, the online presence of FESTIVUS, has received an incredible response from the animation community: 2,400 members have now signed up, with 20 leading global animation studios on board, many already advertising their jobs on the recruitment hub.

Launched at the end of last year by Rob Doherty in response to a rising demand for focussed recruitment needs in the animation sector, FSTVS now has an active and expanding jobs board with crew roles advertised by a range of leading and award-winning international studios including: Blue Zoo, Lupus Films, Paper Owl, Lil Critter Workshop, Karrot Entertainment, Wild Child, Boulder Media, JAM, Flock, Studio AKA and Sun + Moon.

In addition to the growing recruitment hub, FSTVS is building its offering for its animation community showcasing news, upcoming training opportunities and industry podcasts, including FSTVS’ own newly launched curated ‘Executive Sessions’ podcast featuring a host of inspiring and experienced senior executives in the industry including: Animation UK’s Kate O’Connor; Available Light Productions’ Nancy Kanter; Sky’s Lucy Murphy; Cantilever Media’s Andrew Baker;  Aardman’s Robin Gladman; Paramount’s Louise Bucknole; WildBrain’s Nico Lockhart, and Animation Associates’ Helen Brunsdon.

The FSTVS Executive Sessions will be followed by other FSTVS podcast series focussing on other areas of the animation industry including studio ownership, the variety and nature of roles in the animation process, and diversity in our industry.

The aim of FSTVS is simple – to help studios find crew and crew find careers and to become the online presence of the FESTIVUS event and community.

From humble beginnings in the back streets of London in the early 2000s, the FESTIVUS community has grown over 20 years, via regular in-person events and an active social media presence, to being a home for animation talent, with over 12,000 global members.

After the overwhelmingly successful launch of FSTVS in the UK, it was always the plan to bring the same ethos of community and connectivity to Europe, and beyond. After 20 years of presence within the industry FSTVS has always reached beyond the UK’s borders anyway and hosting hugely successful events at The Annecy Animation Festival has proved its value on a global stage. Community and creativity know no borders.

In response to a rising demand in recruitment needs in the animation sector, Rob Doherty is expanding his FESTIVUS brand, launching a dedicated online animation recruitment and community hub FSTVS.

fstvs.net website launch on 4th December 2023

The aim of FSTVS is simple – to help studios find crew and crew find careers. Its aim is to become the destination for the industry’s animation recruitment needs and the online presence of the FESTIVUS event and community.

From humble beginnings in the back streets of London in the early 2000s, the FESTIVUS community has grown over 20 years, via regular in-person events and an active social media presence, to being a home for animation talent, with over 11,000 global members.

FSTVS is the next stage in expanding this community, answering increased demand for recruitment support across the animation sector, to reach more industry professionals, animation students, and recent graduates, to offer more work opportunities as well as industry specific news, updates, programs, training, mentorships, and offers.

Studios and talent globally will be able to sign up to the FSTVS jobs board which will offer a one-stop shop for crew of all levels and disciplines, with a growing reach across the UK and internationally.

There has been a proliferation in demand for animation talent and crew but a lack of resources aimed specifically at this sector. FSTVS aims to simplify the animation recruitment process, bringing together studios and animation professionals in a shared space where jobs can be advertised and applied for, and industry intelligence can be exchanged.
