The Brighton International Animation Festival is set to take place for the third year running on Friday 5th, Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th April 2024. Thanks to the huge sell-out success of last year, the festival has added an extra day – hosted at The Queery on Friday 5th April – and Saturday & Sunday’s programme will be held at Brighton’s iconic Fabrica venue.

The festival is a fantastic celebration of traditional and modern animation, and this year is no different. You will get to see the spectacular 1954 cel animation Animal Farm as it celebrates its 70th anniversary, while also experiencing the best in the next generation of filmmakers – UK and International. The Brighton International Animation Festival is also the only UK festival to host an AR exhibition alongside the programme. All films are subtitled with BSL interpreters at all events, making it fully accessible for deaf & hard of hearing.

The 2024 prestige jury panel includes:

  • Vivien Halas – daughter of British animation legends John Halas & Joy Batchelor and founder of the Halas & Batchelor film archive. She is the co-author of Halas & Batchelor, an animated history 2006 and A Moving Image, Joy Batchelor 1914-91, Artist, Writer and Animator 2014.
  • Candy Guard – Creator of hit Channel 4 animation sitcom Pond Life and 13 award-winning animated shorts for Channel 4 and the BBC, including ‘Alternative Fringe’ about an unfortunate trip to the hairdressers, and ‘Fatty Issues’ about a 1-day diet. She will also be screening her new film She’s My Best Friend (But I Hate Her)’!
  • Joseph Wallace – BAFTA Cymru nominated animation director, writer and producer. His award-winning work spans short films, music videos, commercials and sequences for feature films and television.
