‘Miss Todd’ Takes Flight Online: Behind The Scenes

// Women in Animation

“It’s 1909, and the whole world is waking to the possibilities of flight. Miss Todd dreams of flying, but she’s got more than gravity holding her down.”

Inspired by the real Miss Todd, the first woman in the world to build and design an aeroplane, Miss Todd is now available online for all the world to see. The short, animated, stop-motion musical explores the story of her determination, perseverance and passion. The online release coincides with the recent publication of a children’s book adaptation, which uses stills from the film.

Made at the UK’s National Film and Television School, Miss Todd was the first animated film ever to win a gold medal at the Student Academy Awards in the Foreign Film Category. It has gone on to win a number of other major awards, including a Royal Television Society Award and an Annie Award Nomination, and has been screened at dozens of festivals around the world.
